Grand Haven State Park: Connected Emergency Response for Safer Great Lakes Beaches

In support of safer and more connected Great Lakes beaches, SwimSmart Technology deployed an integrated emergency response system at Grand Haven State Park in Grand Haven, Michigan. The project combines RingStation 360 rescue stations with SwimSmart’s AlertFlow platform to help connect beachgoers, park rangers, and 911 dispatch during waterfront emergencies.
Highly visible orange rescue stations throughout the park contain life rings that can be quickly accessed by the public. When a life ring cabinet is opened, AlertFlow sends the location of the activation to 911 dispatch while alarms inside staffed park buildings alert nearby park rangers. Blue poles equipped with cameras orient toward the activated station, providing dispatchers with visual context from the incident area.
By alerting 911 and on-site park staff simultaneously, the system helps mobilize the people closest to an emergency while giving dispatchers better location awareness and information to coordinate the response. The technology has supported lifesaving responses, locating lost children, identifying false alerts, and stronger real-time collaboration between Grand Haven State Park staff and 911 dispatch.
The Grand Haven State Park deployment demonstrates how connected safety infrastructure can strengthen emergency response at busy Great Lakes beaches by bringing rescue equipment, automated alerts, cameras, local responders, and 911 dispatch into a coordinated emergency response network.
